What is the New York Times?
The New York Times (sometimes abbreviated as “Nytime news”) is an American daily newspaper, founded and continuously published in New York City since 1851. The New York Times has won more Pulitzer Prizes than any other newspaper and holds the rare distinction of being the first newspaper in the United States to publish photographs of a breaking news event.
Even with its high reputation and powerful name, The Times has been accused by critics of being less than impartial and independent. The Times has been noted to have an extremely liberal editorial stance, especially in its editorial pages.
History of The New York Times
The Nytime news is one of the oldest American newspapers, having been founded on September 18, 1851, by Henry Jarvis Raymond and George Jones. The paper came out as a single four-page volume published at New York City Hall. In 1869, The New York Times merged with the New York Evening Express, and in 1922, the paper came under the control of the Ochs-Sulzberger family.
The New York Times Company and its subsidiary The Washington Post Company were purchased on February 8, 1943, by the Times Mirror Company in a transaction that was formally approved on April 8, and was finalized on May 2. In the summer of 1921, editor and publisher Alfred Ochs stood to make a profit of $200,000 a year, but with a sudden financial downturn, he was forced to sell his flagship paper in a deal that saw his portion of the company selling for $130 million.
